Rose Festival

It's Rose Festival time again. It started off with a Bang last night - an hour and a half thunderstorm. Followed by rain today and a forecast calling for rain or showers pretty much all week next week. Yep, typical Rose Festival weather for the Starlight Parade, Grand Floral Parade, & Junior Parade. Not to mention the ships coming in. All the bridges are up this afternoon...just in time for people wanting to go home! Makes me glad I'm off today! lol

Threw some laundry in quick this morning and took off grocery shopping. Came back to find the power went out while I was gone and the washer wouldn't start back up. :( Grrr. Evidently there's some kind of delay reset. It's working now! Whew. Three more loads to do.

I actually just heard about Oregon Intense Storms on CNN. You guys are famous now!

I heard the Rose Festival isn't going to be as big this year. :( I heard a major sponsor of the festival was WaMU?

Woo-hoo, we're famous! *waves*

I think it's been declining a little over the last few years. There's been a few major incidents that has brought out a lot more security/police patrols - a pickpocket ring, a food riot, and one more that I can't recall.
WaMu is still in transition after being bought out by Chase Bank so I can see why they're not a sponsor this year. It's no longer just a "local" bank. :(

I think they were just here in the Northwest - Washington, Oregon, & Idaho.

Hm, maybe so. But we did a lot of business with them in Grand Forks (when I worked for a bank there). They were HUGE in our regional mortgage business. :)

The web makes the world a smaller place? :D
I don't know. Come to think of it, setting up my online mortgage payments the address was in Texas but they could be selling the mortgages outside their system. I believe BoA does that too.

How long do the bridges typically stay up?

Until the ship goes through! :D
LOL I couldn't resist that! They've got a Coast Guard ship, a Canadian Navy vessel, and I believe a US one as well. They start arriving at 2 pm. I believe it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to raise the bridge, allow the ship through, and lower it back down. And they don't all arrive at the same time! It also seems a lot longer when you're the one in the driver's seat with nowhere else to go! (Sorta like waiting for those long freight trains)

I usually just see the fireworks on the startup night but I didn't even do that this year.
