Give me a break

I got home from work last night to see blue smoke rising from the left front wheel well. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong (insert Dr. McCoy's voice, "I'm a baker, not an auto mechanic") so I took it into the shop this morning (fortunately, it's my day off!) and they couldn't find anything wrong either. They could see where the brakes got too hot but not a reason why that would happen. Their best guess is that the calipers on the left side got stuck and if it happens again they can replace them. Estimated cost for replacement - $400. And while they were doing the brake inspection, they found that the rear brakes were starting to seep (not leak) brake fluid. It's not very bad but, it'll only get worse. Estimated cost for that - $350. There goes my tax refunds...plus. :(

On a happier note, Mom called the other day after watching the news to let me know that people have found that the mattresses of their Sleep Number beds (SelectComfort) were filled with mildew and that I should open mine up and check it. And here's the happier part: mine's fine - no mildew. :)

Now it's off to finish the last load of laundry, fix something for dinner, and put the bed back together. Then maybe I can finish my book...or some wii bowling! :)

New t-shirts seen:

Well, on the planet that I come from...

Not that I need any more humorous shirts but the first and last are rather appropriate!

Are those Sleep Number beds filled with water or something? I always wondered how they worked.

It's an air mattress system. Unlike the air mattresses that I've used for camping which you have to refill each night, the SelectComfort beds are supposed to keep the same level of firmness until you want to change it. It's very comfortable and in reading the articles, both from KATU and Select Comfort, I'm not worried about it growing mold.
