Silver Creek South Falls

On the first day of vacation, I went out to see:

Silver Creek Falls in the snow

I'm not the only one who thought it was a nice day for a hike

Over the river

and through the woods

to grandmother's house we go...

(okay, that's actually my house but go with me here :D)
But beware the big bad bear

I was going to hike to Winter Falls along the Rim Trail and as you can see, no one else was brave enough to go first except the deer. I saw several sets of deer tracks but no deer.

I got about a quarter mile into the woods when the trail became a pond of melted snow that was deeper than my boots so I decided I didn't really need to freeze my feet off and turned back. So South Falls is all I got this time out but I must say, wading through ankle deep snow is a workout!
I've got to get me some kind of shoe cleats for walking in ice/packed snow. I walked this 9 mile loop last summer but the ice and snow made me rather uncomfortable about trying to go down some of the steep trails and I turned back. Call me chicken but I'd rather not chance slipping and breaking a leg out there by myself. It might have been different if I'd been able to get someone else to go too.
