Spock Strange

Safety picnic

The place where I work has what they call a Safety picnic just before the Labor Day weekend. It's held by the Safety Committee who wants everyone to work safe and have no accidents on the job. What they do is have a grill set up for 24 hours just outside the Engineering Dept. and grill hamburgers and bratwurst. This year they held it on my day off so I missed out. I found out last night that someone hadn't boiled the brats before grilling them and everyone who ate them got food poisoning. Now that's what you call Safety In Action!

August books

I've outdone myself! Not only have I managed to read more than a book a day this month, I've read over ten thousand pages in one month! I'm also back on track for my goal of reading three hundred books this year. Two hundred down and one hundred to go!

TBR in September books

I managed to read all 32 books last month though not all the ones on my list!

I've finished all The Firekeeper books that I have. If you're looking for a good fantasy series, give Jane Lindskold a try.
I still need to read the last 2 books in Irene Radford's Stargods trilogy: The Dragon's Revenge and The Dragon circle.

I started reading the first book in Susan Wittig Albert's China Bayles series as part of a discussion group in whodundidit. Now I've got 10 more books in the series to read!

The 2 books for g8ways are The Named by Marianne Curley and Firestorm by Rachel Caine. The former is the first of The Guardians of Time trilogy and I have all 3 that I want to read this month. The latter is the latest Weather Warden book that just came out.

The 2 books for bookwyrmmes are Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison. Once again, the former is a trilogy of which I have the first two books and the third on hold at the Library. The latter is the first book of a series too but I don't have any more of them.

Coming in this month are:
Death on the Diagonal by Nero Blanc
Stalking The Puzzle Lady by Parnell Hall
The Case of the Roasted Onion by Claudia Bishop
Rescue by Gordon Korman
Gypsy Gold by Terri Farley
The Grief Shop by Vicki Stiefel
Out Cold by William G. Tapply

That's 27 books. If I have to cut any, it'll probably be the Scott Westerfeld ones and the new one by Claudia Bishop. It's the first of a new series not a new Hemlock Falls mystery. If I have extra time, I've still got the following:

I've got a couple more Library books to read: Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin and The Singer of alll Songs by Kate Constable.

Still to catch up on from earlier this year:
City For Ranson by Robert W. Walker
Across the Wall by Garth Nix
Dragon's Eye by James A. Hetley
Northern Storm and Western Shore by Juliet E. McKenna
