US Census 2010

Okay, guys. You send me a letter dated March 8 telling me that the Census form is coming in 1 week and I must fill it out and mail it in promptly.
Then I get the Census form about a week later (yeah, it's been sitting on my desk waiting for me to get around to it!)...
Today, I get a little postcard stating that my response to the Census form is required by law so, while I'd rather be reading my book, I thought I should at least take a look at it.

The very first question: How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?
Now, really, HOW can I answer that when I don't have access to a TARDIS or other time transportation device and April 1, 2010 HAS NOT YET ARRIVED. Not to mention the fact that your question about a date is in the past tense. So, rather obviously, I can't fill out this form until April 2, 2010 AT THE EARLIEST.
Should I be calling your 1-866 number to ask for time travel assistance or should I just wait another 10 days to fill the Census form out and mail it in?

Glad I could brighten up an otherwise gray and rainy day. :)

I hope that 8 am call from the UK was your time and not his! ;)

We received a similar stream of urgent letters, in the following order:

1) Your census form is coming!
2) Here is your census form!
3) Fill out your damn census form!

It seems like they really aren't asking for much information in 2010. I guess people are more paranoid now. I wonder how much we really know about American demographics anymore?

It seemed to me to be about the same as the last one - name, birthdate, and race.
Definitely more paranoid with all the alerts about ID theft and new scams every day to steal your information.
And maybe even a nice new conspiracy theory: The first question on the 2010 Census is a trick question. The way it is worded, you can't answer it until after April 1, 2010. Everyone who sends their form in with a postmark before April 1 is lying to the Government and if they'll lie on their Census form, what do you think they'll do on their taxes? So their names are to be forwarded to the IRS for auditing within the next year.
What do you think, do I have it in me to become a conspiracy theorist? lol

I don't know if you are being serious or not. :)

The U.S. Census website states that you can fill out your form as soon as you receive it in the mail. April 1st (National Census Day) is just an arbitrary placeholder.

This is supposed to be one of the shortest Census forms in history. I only wish that the IRS forms were getting shorter.

Nope, just being funny. Guess I better not quit my day job! :D

If the IRS forms got shorter, people might be able to understand them. Then they wouldn't have to take them in to the CPAs and all those people would be out of work. Since the Government is trying to CREATE jobs, they MUST make the IRS forms as long and complicated as possible! ;)

You could be the first baker/comedian. I bet you would really raise some dough (haha).

I've been meaning to mention a vanity plate I saw on a North Dakota pickup recently. It read "DEADMAN". I'm still puzzled by it.

haha I donut know about that but I'd sure try! :D

Deadman could be either the alternative country band or comic book superhero.

Why can't they do the Census form electronically exactly?
Mar. 24th, 2010 11:21 pm (UTC)
Not everyone has access to a way to fill it out electronically.
Mar. 24th, 2010 11:46 pm (UTC)
I understand. But couldn't that be one option?

Then you'd have to correlate the info from 2 sets into 1 and make sure that no one filled out both. Easier just to have 1 way and at least it's not door-to-door! :D
